We spoke to the gorgeous Katherine Studley, our USA partner, and founder of The Only Consultant (@the_only_consultant). We dive into how she became The Only Consultant, what inspires her, and her top tips for keeping finances in check as an Industry worker.
Firstly thank you so much for taking the time to chat with us here at EMPIRE. Tell us a little bit more about yourself and what you do.
My name is Katherine, I am a tax accountant and a content creator. I’m originally from Buffalo, NY. My dad is a certified public accountant (CPA), and when I was growing up, I saw everyone asking him for tax advice all year long. Seeing this influenced my career choices and made me think I should go into accounting as well. So I graduated from Niagara University with a Bachelor’s in Accounting. I thought that if a career in accounting didn’t work out, I could always start my own business. Now I’ve combined those two ambitions into my dream career!
Love that you were able to combine your passions into a successful career helping others, what originally inspired you to start an Only Fans and work in the Industry?
I initially heard about OnlyFans in the summer of 2020 while working in social media. As a tax accountant, my mind instantly raced to all of the new creators who would need tax help and knew I wanted to be the one to help them. OnlyFans has been extremely empowering to my clients and I love watching these businesses thrive. Previous to finding OF, I had no experience or real exposure to the SW industry and I decided that if I was going to serve clients in the digital space I also needed to focus on entrepreneurs in the physical space. Personally, I prefer working with the SW industry because everyone is so kind and genuine!
It sounded like a beautiful window of opportunity for you to be able to specialise in that Niche. What was the journey like to start The Only Consultant?
I was working in CPA firms right after college, but it just didn’t feel right for me. I hated working in public accounting and decided to leave to work in other areas. But I had fallen in love with tax consulting and still wanted to help people achieve their financial dreams. I knew I wanted to fulfil my goal of helping people in a different way. When the pandemic hit, I understood new business opportunities were emerging, and in mid-2020 I came across OnlyFans. I saw the potential for adult content creators to shape their own uncommon, independent career paths just as I have. Because of my tax experience, I knew adult content creators would be earning money as independent contractors instead of W-2 employees and may not feel comfortable seeking help in a traditional CPA firm. I knew that I could help them in ways that traditional CPA firms could not. I saw my opportunity to continue to help people reach their financial goals, so I quit my full-time job on the spot to start The Only Consultant!
GOOD FOR YOU! Tell us, Katherine, what do you love most about your job?
Since starting The Only Consultant, I’ve helped hundreds of clients safely navigate the tax process as new entrepreneurs. I’ve partnered with my former CPA firm to offer tax preparation, bookkeeping, business formation, and all things related to support for small businesses. The need for straightforward and compassionate financial help for adult content creators has inspired me to continue expanding my financial advice offerings to keep pace with the ever-growing needs of my clients. I’m always looking for every opportunity to teach and guide adult content creators in growing their new businesses because helping new businesses thrive is what keeps me energized. I love empowering my clients and guiding them on the path to becoming successful entrepreneurs. I want to reach as many people as I can and give them the financial knowledge they need to succeed.
Your mission is incredibly empowering and inspiring! What have you found to be the biggest learning curve or challenge working with clients in this industry?
Familiarising myself with the industry has been my biggest challenge. I’m not a sex worker so I had to do a lot of research to truly understand the different corners of the industry. I spent a year taking free calls just to learn about each client’s niche. Understandably, some clients are sceptical about working with me since I have no SW experience but I sincerely want to empower the industry with financial knowledge and it doesn’t take long for potential clients to sense that.
What do you love most about your role as an accountant for industry clients?
The people!!! Every time I speak with a client it’s like we’re already friends, I feel like I can have real conversations with my audience. I also love watching clients double their income every month, it inspires me!
What is one piece of advice you have for people starting out in the Industry?
Track your income/expenses from day one and start a separate bank account!
